Strabane Controlled Primary School, Strabane

Shared Education

Our school has been involved with Sion Mills Primary School in a shared education partnership since January 2015. The overall aim of the shared education project is to scale up the level of sharing throughout schools in Northern Ireland. It hopes to improve both educational and reconciliation outcomes by schools working collaboratively.

The purpose of shared education is to -

(a) deliver educational benefits to children and young persons;
(b) promote the efficient and effective use of resources;
(c) promote equality of opportunity;
(d) promote good relations; and
(e) promote respect for identity, diversity and community cohesion.

Various classes from Year 3-7 have been involved in shared sessions with our partner school, focusing on various cross-curricular topics. Together we engage in a range of learning activities and meet in various shared locations to gain experiences which will both enhance our pupil's personal skills and widen our educational knowledge.

Mrs Cunningham from Sion Mills and Miss Finlay from Strabane Primary are the coordinators. They welcome any questions or feedback.
