Shared Education: Aspire Partnership

We are delighted to announce the continuation of our Shared Education journey through the PEACEPLUS Aspire programme and our second year in our new partnership with St Catherine’s Primary School, Strabane. This collaboration brings exciting opportunities for pupils, families, and the wider community to learn, grow, and celebrate diversity together.

Through joint projects such as the “Same Face, Different Places” initiative, our Primary 3 pupils have and will engage in shared learning experiences that promote respect, inclusion, and friendship. Activities will include collaborative literacy and numeracy sessions, outdoor learning, STEM challenges, and cultural crafts, all designed to foster empathy and understanding.

Beyond the classroom, Aspire strengthens community connections by hosting family events, creating shared newsletters, and involving local groups and expertise. By working together, we aim to build a legacy of peace and reconciliation, ensuring every child—regardless of background or ability—feels valued and included.

Pre-School Provision Under Aspire

We are now in our second year of Aspire pre-school funding, which provides up to 30 hours of dedicated Shared Education for our nursery children. This early years partnership allows our youngest learners to experience inclusive play-based activities, cultural celebrations, and creative projects alongside peers from different backgrounds. Supported by specialist mentors, this programme helps educators embed best practice and gives families the chance to connect across communities. Starting shared education at this stage lays strong foundations for friendship, respect, and understanding that will benefit children throughout their school journey.

This week in Nursery we have started our Shared Education programme with St Catherine's PS. The boys and girls were so excited to video call all of the children and teachers at St Catherines, we got to say hello, introduce ourselves, read stories and even sing songs together! It was lovely to meet Mrs Porter's and Miss Carlin's classes and we are so excited to be meeting them in-person very soon!

Our Year 3 pupils enjoyed a Shared Education morning at St Catherine’s Primary School as part of the ASPIRE Shared Education programme. Throughout the morning, pupils took part in a calming movement activity, activity-based learning, and painted each other. A huge thank you to St Catherine’s PS for welcoming us.
