Eco-Schools: Our Journey Towards Sustainability
Our school is proud to be part of the Eco-Schools programme, empowering pupils to take an active role in caring for the environment. Each year, our Eco-Committee members are elected and presented with badges during a whole-school assembly, marking the start of an exciting journey.
Following an Environmental Review, pupils create an Action Plan that guides a range of initiatives. Highlights include leading the Christmas Shoebox Appeal, donating dozens of boxes to Samaritan’s Purse, and welcoming NI Water’s Water Bus to teach pupils about water conservation. Pupils also embrace healthy living through activities like the Daily Mile Santa Run and Olympic-themed Daily Mile events, promoting fitness and well-being.
Our gardening club thrives, with pupils growing vegetables and creating floral gifts for special occasions. Energy Saving Week encourages families to reduce energy use, while creative competitions such as the eco-themed Easter Egg contest showcase pupils’ imagination.
Sustainability remains central through projects like the School Cycled Scheme, where we recycle plastic lids—earning Earth Tokens towards eco-friendly school resources. The year concludes with a joint Eco-Committee and School Council meeting, celebrating pupil leadership and commitment to a greener future.
We are proud to have successfully achieved six Green Flags and are now working towards our seventh, reflecting our ongoing dedication to environmental stewardship.
Thank you to all pupils, staff, and partners for making a real difference!
