Year 6 Creative Writing
Back in April, Year 6 had the opportunity to put their creative writing shoes on and be involved in an exciting writing workshop, celebrating the works of Flann O’Brien – a world famous author who wrote both in Irish and in English under many different pen names. As part of this workshop, which was in association with the Library Service, the pupils were exposed to some of the Irish language and wrote using English and Ulster Scots. They were under the guidance of some local writers and were encouraged to use some of what they learned in pieces of their own. The children took part with great enthusiasm and were encouraged to be creative and use humour as an incentive to not let writing be dull and boring. After the workshop was completed, the children concluded their writing back at school.
Once completed, all the work was sent and compiled into a publication, with work from another school. On Wednesday past, the pupils were invited back to the Library to celebrate the book being printed. Each child got a copy of the book and were encouraged to continue their endeavours and use the skills to become the next Flann O’Brien!
