School Cricket Team Impress in Hardball Cricket Competition

3rd Jun 2026

Our school cricket team proudly took part in the second year of the Primary School Hardball Cricket programme today, building on the success of last year’s positive pilot in 2025.

This exciting competition is a natural progression from the Primary School Coaching sessions, Blitzes and Finals Day, and is designed for our most skilled and confident cricketers in P6 and P7. The format introduces pupils to hardball cricket in a supportive and enjoyable way, using a hybrid ball—hard on the outside but hollow inside—which helps reduce intimidation and encourages confident fielding and catching.

The team faced strong opposition throughout the day. Our first match was against Bready Jubilee Primary School, in what proved to be a very evenly contested and high-quality game. Both teams demonstrated excellent skill and determination, with Bready narrowly securing victory by just six runs.

In our second match, the team delivered a superb performance against Sion Mills Integrated Primary School, securing an impressive 86-run victory. It was a fantastic display of teamwork, batting strength, and disciplined bowling.

We would like to thank Bready Jubilee PS and Sion Mills IPS for two excellent and sporting matches. Our sincere thanks also go to the North West Cricket Union (NWCU), particularly Conor Graham, Head Coach, for organising the competition, and to Strabane Academy for kindly hosting at short notice due to unfavourable weather conditions.

Well done to our players, who represented the school with impeccable behaviour, outstanding sportsmanship, and excellent cricketing ability throughout the day. We are incredibly proud of their efforts.

We look forward to our upcoming school fixtures and will keep you updated with future match outcomes.
