Yesterday the School Council were invited to attend Local Democracy Week 2025, hosted by Derry City and Strabane District Council at The Guildhall, Derry. We got to meet with the current Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Ruairí McHugh, learn about the Mayor’s role and responsibilities and participate in a tour of the Guildhall, a quiz, a debate, and a Q&A session. We found this event very interesting and informative. Listening to the Mayor and what his role entails has inspired us for the year ahead in our roles as School Councillors.
